Murthly Primary School

The Nursery

Murthly Nursery Class

The nursery  has 10 afternoon places.  The Nursery currently has 9 children attending .

The Nursery runs from 12.45 - 3.15pm.

The aim of the Nursery is to follow the appropriate guidelines and give the children a safe and lively environment in which they can learn about the world around them. it is also our aim to intergrate the Nursery children with the whole school as much as possible. This is helped by the fact that the Nursery is in the same large room as the P.1-2 class and the ECP works closely with the P.1-2 teacher. Nursery children often have the opportunity to choose to be with the P.1-2 children and participate in some lessons.

During  a nursery session the children have a wide range of activities they can access on their own, with a friend or in a small group. Some of the activities we do in nursery:

  •        Painting, Cutting, gluing, junk modelling, playdough, clay and much, much more
  •        singing, music area and listening area
  •        gym-time indoors and out
  •        jigsaws
  •        dressing-up
  •       stories
  •       water and sand play
  •        construction
  •        maths area
  •      ‘small world’
  •       baking and cooking
  •       drawing and writing areas
  •       computer software

The nursery children also attend our music, drama, art and gym specialist teachers throught the year. The children enjoy their time with the specialist visiting teachers.

Our nursery garden

We are very lucky to have an early years vegetable garden which was kindly arranged by Mr Lindsay and Mr Thomson in Summer 2008.

Building work was carried out by Mr Thomson.

The railway sleepers were donated by Murthly  and Strathbraan Estate.

The fencing was donated by Highland industrial fencing.

The gravel was supplied by Travis Perkins.

I hope I haven't missed anyone out! Thank you very much for organising and supplying materials for this project!

We have really enjoyed using our new garden which has been very successful. When we sold our vegetables for donations in August we raised £ 52 which we have used to buy this years plants and seeds.

 Vegetable garden 2009

We have just started planting out this years crops, some of which should be ready before the summer holidays and the rest will be ready in August when we come back. So if you would like some very fresh and organic vegetables look out for our posters in June and August!

Junk Appeal

From time to time we will be look for certain items for displays, people with certain skills or resources. If you are able to help out in anyway , that's great! Just think about it as recycling!

  • newspapers
  • junk - cereal boxes, yoghurt pots, marg tubs, kitchen tubes etc  but can I ask that you don't bring in foil food packaging , polysterene chips/containers or toilet rolls
  • carrier bags
  • material- either scraps to be used in art activities or large enough for display tables
  • wool and buttons

Summer House

As you may be aware we are fundraising to buy a summer house for the nursery garden which would be used by the nursery children and Primary 1/2.

All the proceeds raised through the Spree books have been put towards this project.

If anyone has any easy fundraising ideas which can involve the children as much as possible please come and see me in the nursery at anytime.  If any nursery parents would like to help with this project, please come along and see me in the nursery.

Fish

The Nursery children recently went to pet store in Perth and chose three goldfish to populate a new fishtank.

The children have decided to call them, Happy, Spotty and Dash. They seem happy in their new home.
