CHRISTMAS ARRANGEMENTS

There will be a meeting for interested parents at 2.30pm on Monday 30th November to discuss arrangements for Christmas and to get your views on a couple of things. I hope some of you will be willing to help us at the Concert and at various events leading up to Christmas. Please come along if you can as we need your help.

‘CHRISTMAS CAROL’ WORKSHOP

P.3-5 will take part in a drama workshop with a member of Dundee rep. coming to the school prior to our trip to the theatre. There is a charge for this event and to help cover costs we would ask that each child pays £1.50.

CONCERT

This is on the 8th of December in the Village hall. We will do two performances, one in afternoon and one in the evening. The afternoon show will begin at 1.30pm and the evening at 7pm. P.3-5 will take the organization of the event on as an Enterprise activity and will issue letters with details very soon.

CHILDREN IN NEED

On Friday the 27th we are going to have a Rainbow Day. Each stage in the school will be given a colour (Randomly drawn) and we would encourage each child to dress as much as they can in that colour. Each child doing this should pay £1 or more if you wish to go towards Children in need. We have challenged the children to dress as completely as they can in that colour.

The colours are as follows:

Nursery/P.1      Yellow/Orange      P.2                   Green      P.3                   Red

P.4                   White                  P.5                   Blue        P.6                   Any colour

P.7                   Black

DESPERATE DAN COMPETITION

Congratulations to Ryan MacDonald who went along to Dundee College this morning to make his sandwich in the final of the Desperate Dan Sandwich competition. There were 12 finalists out of an entry of over 300 so he did very well to reach that stage. Ryan received a doggy bag of goodies for his efforts. My thanks to Mrs Gray and Mrs MacDonald for providing transport.

EARLY YEARS FUND RAISING

The recent coffee afternoon raised over £200 which was a great effort. A Summer House can now be bought with the money raised. Many thanks to all those who supported this in any way.

FINANCE

We hope to receive a kind donation from a Nationwide company for £500. This money will go towards another Hut which will be used by the prefects as a ‘Common Room’ and also by children wanting to run clubs eg Reading group, ‘Art Club’ and any other ideas they may wish to pursue.

HEALTH GROUP

At the recent meeting held after school the mums involved have come up with a few ideas to encourage children to try healthy foods. We will let you know what is happening once these ideas have been discussed and planned for.

HEART START TRAINING

We have only had a few final returns regarding this. The recent slip we sent home was to get final numbers which I would pass on to the Heart Start trainer. I will have to check if the numbers are sufficient to go ahead with this. If you are still interested but have not sent in the slip please do so as soon as possible.

As staff are taking part in the training we will not be able to have a crèche unless a parent with a Police Check certificate is willing to look after a group of children, which would make it easier for you to attend. I have tried to contact the trainer but as yet cannot tell you how long the training will last or if it will in fact go ahead with the numbers we have.  I will let you know as soon as I know.

IN-SERVICE TRAINING

Just so you know what we were up to during the two days teaching staff attended a Curriculum for excellence conference held in the Concert Hall.

On the Friday several members of staff attended Bounce Back training which is aimed at developing children’s resilience. We will start this work in the new year.

Mrs Merriman and Mrs Fothergill attended a support staff training day on Curriculum for Excellence, Mrs Strachan went on Advanced Excel training.

Teachers also spent some time rearranging their classrooms.

PARENT COUNCIL

Many thanks to parents who attended the recent Council meeting.

We will issue minutes of the recent Council meeting through our web site, e-mail and on noticeboard once they have been finalized.

PARENT PLANS

You should have received the plan on green paper via your child. Please send in any comments and successes your child may have had outwith school by the end of next week.

PHOTOGRAPHS

These will be taken on Monday 30th November. You will find attached to this letter a form asking you what combinations of photographs you would like.

SHOE BOX APPEAL

We received a letter of thanks from the organizers of this. Many thanks to those of you who took the time to put together a box of ‘goodies’.

THEATRE TRIP

The whole school will be travelling to Dundee Rep on the morning of 8th December to see ‘A Christmas Carol’. We will leave the school at 9am as the performance starts at 10am. Therefore could I please ask that every child is at school prior to 9am to avoid any rush.
